Amazing success for the BIG Summer BBQ 2011

Copyright LiquidPhoto 2011Looking at the depressing rain outside my window as I am writing this I can just feel very lucky for the great event we had last night at The Ranch.  The BIG Summer BBQ 2011, building on the success of two previous events like the BIG Christmas Party 2010 and BIG Summer BBQ 2010, managed to exceed expectation for us, the organizers, as well as the supporting groups and sponsors that contributed to the success of this event.

Starting from half a dozen people waiting outside the door before we opened at 5pm sharp, we saw a growing queue counting up to 30 individuals at a time that lasted until well past 7.  Mixing professionals, entrepreneurs, directors, academics and university students (and a 2 months old baby boy :-) ) the BBQ attracted a total of over two hundred attendees networking in a very social, friendly and enjoyable way.  In fact I was very surprised to count over hundred people still around at 10pm and nearly 40 people when The Ranch was finally trying to close down.

I would like to thank my partners in this amazing venture Mauro Ciaccio from CamTechNet and Paul Smith from Eventility; guys I think, without modesty, that we did manage to get the best out of this event.  Last but not least thanks to LiquidPhoto for the amazing shots they took, some of which are here below (to them the copyright to all pictures here).  More to come in the next few days.

A Great Cambridge Event

We could not have hoped for a better evening! Thanks to all of you who turned out, and made the Big Summer BBQ the event of the summer season for all the Cambridge networks and groups involved. And we even had a visitor who came all the way from San Francisco, just for us…… (well maybe not “just”).

With your support we raised £257 for CamFED, in addition to the money they also collected on the night. Too bad the Kindle was actually won by an infiltrated startup from Nottingham (no names :-) )

Perfect day for a BBQ

The weather played funny over the last few days but today is starting in a bright and sunny way.  The venue, the sponsors and obviously us, the organizers are all ready for a great event.

For those who managed to miss all articles, posts and tweets we have well over 200 people booked in and we are very excited about what was defined to be the biggest cross network social event in Cambridge to date.  Thanks to the many networking and meet-up groups that made this possible.

What a great communities effort!

We are jumping the gun here a bit, but with less than 1 hour to go we have already surpassed the record number of ticket sales of the Big Summer BBQ 2010 and the Big Xmas Party 2010. So thanks to all of you that have decided to join us for this great event.

With our 15 SUPPORTING NETWORKS we have also set another record in the organisations promoting the BBQ!

We think it is safe to say that the vibrant tech / creative / bio / entrepreneurial Cambridge COMMUNITIES have realised the great value of this event, and how coming together can inspire people, support business and create a real buzz in the Cambridge scene.

Now let’s hope the weather helps us out on Friday! Any sun-dancers in the community(ies)?
